Gingerbread desserts have been around for as long as we can remember.

But it wasn’t until the mid-1980s that we could really enjoy them.

Nowadays, they’re all but forgotten, but if you’re looking for a dessert that can really be a part of your holiday, we’ve gathered up some of our favourite recipes from the past that we’ve loved.


Wooden Spoon Cake Gingerbread cake, made with a wood spoon, is something that can easily be done with just a few ingredients.

You don’t need to be a cake-maker to enjoy this simple, yet incredibly delicious treat.

Ingredients 1½ cups flour 1½ teaspoons baking powder 2 teaspoons baking soda 1 teaspoon salt ½ cup milk 1 egg 1 teaspoon cinnamon ½ cup sugar ½ cup butter, melted ½ cup chocolate chips 1 large egg, beaten with the whisking whisk for the filling 2 cups sugar 1 egg yolk, beaten to create the yolk 2 tablespoons butter, room temperature 1 tablespoon cinnamon 2 tablespoons cocoa powder 3 tablespoons vanilla extract 1 teaspoon nutmeg 1 teaspoon vanilla extract ½ cup gingerbread, toasted, cooled and chopped 3 tablespoons milk Chocolate chips for decorating Gingerbread pudding is another classic treat.

Just a handful of ingredients and you’re ready to make a delicious, festive dessert.

Ingredients 3 cups powdered sugar 1 cup milk (or other liquid) 1 cup powdered egg white 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon 1 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice ½ cup unsalted butter, softened 2 large eggs ½ cup brown sugar, sifted ½ cup chopped pecans, chopped ½ cup dried cranberries 1 tablespoon pumpkin pie filling ½ cup cream (sifted), sifted 1 tablespoon cream cheese 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated Instructions In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt and milk until well combined.

In a separate bowl, mix the egg whites, egg, cinnamon and pumpkin pie spices.

Then, add the milk and sugar.

Pour in the melted butter and mix until just combined.

Add the eggs and mix again.

Next, add in the brown sugar and the pumpkin pie fillings, and mix.

Finally, add a pinch of nutmeg and vanilla.

Pour the batter into the prepared pan, then bake at 350°F for 20 minutes.

Remove from the oven and let cool on a rack.

To decorate, use your favorite chocolate chips.

Gingerbread, like all things, is really just about finding the right combination of ingredients.
